There is no ISO 27001 package of its own yet. The Cyber and Data Protection Assessment covers the controls most of it shares with other frameworks, and the ISO 27001-specific requirements are scoped with you in a 30-minute call.

What it asks for

In plain English, what ISO 27001 expects you to have in place.

  • An information security management systemScope, leadership commitment, a risk method and a plan for continual improvement.
  • A risk assessment and treatment planRisks identified, evaluated, treated and accepted by someone with the authority to accept them.
  • A Statement of ApplicabilityWhich of the Annex A controls apply, which do not, and why.
  • Controls implemented and measuredOrganizational, people, physical and technological controls with evidence they run.
  • Internal audit and management reviewYour own check before the certification body arrives, and leadership reading the results.
  • An accredited certification bodyOnly an accredited body can certify. We build the system and prepare you for the audit.

A note on authority: the regulator, auditor or certifying body has the final say on whether you comply. We help interpret the requirements, scope what applies, gap-assess against what is published today, and keep you compliance-ready and secure as the guidance evolves. We hold no regulatory authority and do not certify.

Where it starts

Your one-stop shop for ISO 27001

ISO 27001 opens doors outside the United States that SOC 2 does not, and the two share most of their evidence. Doing both at once is the trick.

Certification is a two-stage audit by an accredited body, then a surveillance audit each year and a recertification in year three. The standard asks for a management system, a risk assessment, a Statement of Applicability and the controls you chose from Annex A.

Most platforms give you templates for the forty-odd documents. We write the scope statement, run the risk assessment, pick the controls with you and sit with you through both stages.

Draw the boundary: tick what the certificate should cover

Draft scope statement: the ISMS covers our product and the cloud it runs on. That is the smallest certificate, and the one most buyers accept.

The steps

Eight steps from "a buyer wants ISO 27001" to a certificate

The whole ISO 27001 journey, short version. We handle every step with you.

draw the boundary

Write the scope statement

What the certificate covers: which products, sites, teams and systems. Small and precise beats large and vague; the scope statement is printed on the certificate.

With AccuSights: we draft it with you from the intake form and check it against what your buyers actually asked for.

name the risks

Run the risk assessment

The standard wants a documented method, a register of risks, owners and a treatment plan. This is the heart of the management system and the first thing Stage 1 reads.

With AccuSights: your engineer runs it with you and writes it in the form certification bodies expect.

pick the controls

Write the Statement of Applicability

Ninety-three Annex A controls; you state which apply, which you have excluded and why. Auditors read this document more than any other.

With AccuSights: we map the controls you already run for SOC 2 or NIST, so the SoA starts mostly done.

close the gaps

Implement and document

Policies, access control, supplier agreements, logging, backup, incident handling and the records that prove each one ran. Most small companies underestimate the records.

With AccuSights: remediation is in-house, and the evidence collects itself in one place.

run the system

Operate the ISMS

Internal audit, management review, objectives measured, corrective actions logged. Stage 2 wants to see the system running, not just written.

Does it pay for itself

-$5,055 a yearIt does not pay for itself on time alone. You would save about 117 hours, worth $9,945, against a $15,000 price. Break-even is 7.5 hours a week of manual work. It can still be worth it for a Type 2, where the real saving is exceptions you never get.

An ISMS produces records all year: management review, internal audit, corrective actions. A platform files evidence; it does not chair the review. Half is a fair starting guess.

With AccuSights: we run the internal audit and chair the first management review with you.

two stamps

Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits

Stage 1 is a document review: are you ready? Stage 2 is the audit proper: does the system work? Pick an accredited certification body; the accreditation mark is what buyers check.

Stage 1 or Stage 2: where are you?

Stage 1: the readiness review. The certification body reads your scope, risk assessment, SoA and policies and tells you whether Stage 2 can go ahead. Weeks of preparation if the documents exist.

Ten questions to ask before you sign

a check every year

Surveillance audits

Years one and two after certification bring a shorter surveillance audit each; year three is recertification. Nonconformities have to be closed on time.

With AccuSights: the evidence is already filed, so surveillance is a half day, not a month.

wear it everywhere

Reuse the evidence

The same control set answers SOC 2, NIST CSF and most customer questionnaires. The second framework costs a fraction of the first.

With AccuSights: we cross-map natively, so the next request is a mapping exercise, not a new project.

Why AccuSights

Why small teams pick AccuSights for ISO 27001

The platforms were built for companies with a compliance manager. We built this for the ones where the CTO is the compliance manager.

Priced for a startup, not a Series D

One fixed fee, scoped from the intake form and put in writing. No seat math, no surprise add-ons at renewal.

The endpoint agent is built in

Our own agent collects device evidence from every laptop and server automatically. You do not need to buy or configure an enterprise MDM first.

A human who has done this before

A named engineer guides every step, answers the "how far do we take this control?" questions and stays through the audit.

One passport, many borders

ISO 27001 and SOC 2 share most of their evidence. We build one control set and map it to both, so you do the work once.

Questions

ISO 27001 questions we get every week

What is ISO 27001?
ISO/IEC 27001 is the international standard for an information security management system: a structured way to assess risk, choose controls and keep improving. Organizations can be certified by an accredited certification body. The current version is 2022. It is valued by international and enterprise buyers. We prepare you for certification.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
What changed in ISO 27001:2022?
The 2022 version restructured Annex A into 93 controls grouped under four themes: organizational, people, physical and technological. New controls include threat intelligence, cloud services security, data leakage prevention and secure coding. The management system clauses changed less. Certificates to the 2013 version had to transition by 31 October 2025.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
How does ISO 27001 certification work?
After you build the management system and run it for a while, an accredited certification body performs a two-stage audit: stage 1 reviews documentation and readiness, stage 2 tests implementation. Certificates usually last three years with annual surveillance audits. AccuSights does readiness and internal audit work; the certification body is independent.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
Is ISO 27001 better than SOC 2?
Neither is better; they serve different buyers. ISO 27001 is a certification common internationally, while SOC 2 is a US attestation report from a CPA firm. Many companies end up with both, and the overlap is large. Pick based on what your customers ask for. We map one control set to both.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
What is a Statement of Applicability?
A required document that lists every Annex A control, says whether it applies to you, why, and whether it is implemented. Auditors rely on it heavily, and it links your risk assessment to your controls. Keep it honest and current. We draft it from your risk assessment, not from a template.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
How long does ISO 27001 take for a small company?
It depends on scope and maturity. A focused scope, such as one product and its supporting teams, moves faster than the whole company. You need the system running long enough to produce records the auditor can test. After scoping we give you a dated plan with each stage.Source: ISO, ISO/IEC 27001:2022
Do you certify ISO 27001 compliance?
No. We do not certify, and the regulator, examiner or independent auditor for ISO 27001 has the final say. We interpret the requirements for your business, scope what applies, close the gaps and keep the evidence current, so you go into any audit, assessment or examination with the evidence already in hand.
Where do we start with ISO 27001?
With the 3-minute Cyber Hygiene Test if you want a number today, or with the 30-minute call if you want a written scope and a fixed fee. Either way the first deliverable is a gap list ranked by what would fail and what would hurt.
We also need other frameworks. Do we do ISO 27001 separately?
No. We build one control set and map it to every framework you carry, so evidence is produced once and reused. Adding a framework later is a mapping exercise, not a second program.
