What is a GRC tool, and what should SOC 2 software do?
GRC means governance, risk and compliance. For SOC 2, the software's job is narrow: connect to your systems, collect evidence that your controls work, warn you when one stops, and hand the auditor a tidy package.
The products below all do that. They differ in price, in how much help you get from a person, and in whether the audit is part of the deal.

The picks, one by one
Vanta
The largest by published customer count, at more than 16,000, with more than 400 integrations and over 100 partner audit firms by its own figures. Its device monitor checks encryption, screen lock, antivirus and password manager. Vanta's documentation recommends a separate MDM above about 75 devices. Reviewers on G2 praise ease of use and most often mention integration issues and pricing as downsides. Best when you have someone to run it and want a name buyers recognize.
Drata
Deep automation and a large auditor alliance. Customer support is the most-mentioned positive in its G2 reviews. Vendr notes each additional framework adds cost, as it also does for Vanta. Drata acquired SafeBase, a trust center product, in 2025. Best when you have a security lead and more than one framework on the roadmap.
Secureframe
One of the few to publish a starting price, and it has a dedicated plan for defense contractors. It has its own device agent and says it has more than 30 in-house compliance experts and former auditors. Best when you want to see a number before a sales call, or CMMC is in your future.
Sprinto
Popular with small cloud-native companies. Its Foundation plan has email and in-app support, and its Growth plan adds Slack or Teams support and a dedicated success manager. Additional frameworks are an add-on. Best when everything you run is in the cloud and you want a lower entry price.
Thoropass
A licensed audit firm with its own software, so the platform and the audit come from one company. Best when you want a single contract and are happy for Thoropass's own audit firm to do the audit.
Scrut, Scytale, Oneleet and Comp AI
Scrut lists more than 70 frameworks, offers its own device agent and also integrates with MDM tools. Scytale pairs its platform with human experts and sells "done for you" plans. Oneleet bundles a manual pen test and a vCISO for one flat fee. Comp AI is open source. Best when one of those specific traits is the thing you're missing.
Strike Graph and Hyperproof
Strike Graph has a free starter plan and published paid tiers. Hyperproof is a full GRC system that lists more than 160 frameworks. In our view it is more than a first-time startup needs.
AccuSights
Ours. A platform with a built-in endpoint agent, a named compliance engineer and in-house remediation, at a fixed fee that starts at $6,000 a year for a small business. We have far fewer integrations than Vanta or Drata, and our name is less familiar to buyers. Best when you have no security hire and want the work done with you.
How to choose a GRC tool
- Count your integrations. List the systems in scope and check each one is supported. Anything unsupported becomes manual work.
- Ask who helps you. Is expert guidance included, an add-on, or a referral to a partner?
- Price the whole thing. Platform, extra frameworks, add-on modules, audit and pen test. See GRC platform pricing.
- Check devices. Does the tool have its own agent, or does it need an MDM you would have to buy?
- Read the renewal terms. Ask for a cap on annual increases before you sign.
- Ask the auditor. If you already have a CPA firm in mind, ask which tools they work in happily.
With AccuSights: the platform, the expert help and the device evidence come from one provider, and the fee is agreed in writing before you start.
